Almost Halfway

It's been awhile and I'm blissfully still pregnant at 18 weeks. My queasiness subsided around the twelve week mark and I we had another ultrasound at that time, too.

All is still well and we found out at the 16 week mark (and the day after my 33rd birthday!) that there is a great chance that our kid will NOT have Downs Syndrome.  We didn't do all of the genetic testing that we could have during the first trimester because really, I don't want to know and it wouldn't matter anyway.  I also got to hear the heartbeat for the first time (158bpm) with the Doppler.

Now, comfortably in the 2nd trimester, I'm feeling good and filling out my clothes.  I'm reading 3 different baby books.  I haven't felt the baby move yet, but I keep waiting for it.  This is a very exciting time in our lives.  Everyone is so excited for us.  Those that have known our infertility struggles are even more so.  We still have bittersweet moments when we remember that DH doesn't have a genetic connection to the baby, but nonetheless, he is so excited to be a daddy.  I can't wait for the day.

At the same time, I want to try to enjoy this time in my life because who knows if I'll get to be pregnant again?  Who knows what the future will hold?  But, like any type A personality, we have already planned for the future.  Hopefully, God won't laugh at our plans too hard.  But we hope that by the time the baby is a year old, the flood gates will have been opened and I will have gotten pregnant with #2 naturally, the old fashioned way.  The realist in me, however, knows that we most likely will have to go to plan B.  Plan B is to do IVF again.  DH wants a genetic child, and I don't blame him.  I've agreed to try it one more time.  Then, if that fails (one way or another) to produce #2, we will use donor insemination again.  In preparation for Plan C, we purchased 4 vials (2 attempts) from our original donor and are keeping them frozen until the time comes.  This, in itself, was over $3K!

We are now counting the minutes until our next appointment on July 9th.  This will be the 20th week and the ultrasound where we find out the gender of the baby!  We can't wait!
