Two

I received "the call" this afternoon. Not the best of news, I must say. Out of the 12 follicles retrieved yesterday, 9 were mature enough to do ICSI. Out of the 9, four of them didn't fertilize at all. Of the 5 remaining, only 2 are left fertilized as of this afternoon. Two. Really? Two. Our chances of freezing embryos for later is completely out the window.

Sheryl said there seemed to be some "egg issues". They degenerated or didn't have all their egg "parts". I'm not sure what that all means. I'm not sure if my eggs are just retarded (and have been all along) or if the protocol that was used for me wasn't the best. Sheryl hinted that my doctor was going for a certain result with my protocol based upon my past experience with the drugs I used. I tended to develop follicles quickly in the past. But, of course, this time around, I didn't. Everything was slower to develop. Does that have something to do with it? I don't know - they don't know. It's too late now.

Anyway, Sheryl will call me on Wednesday to set up the blastocyst transfer appointment on Friday. She will only contact me before then if one or both embies I've got decide to die/degenerate. Until then, no news is good news. Trying to re-assure me, Sheryl said "it only takes one". So, in the end, I hope my twins make it to Friday so that this whole thing isn't a total bust.

  5. It only takes 1. I got pregnant with the only 2 out of 12 embies I had. So you can do it. Good luck and prayers for a BFP!

  7. Visiting from LFCA. It can happen! Rooting for you. I have learned a lot about my egg quality over 3 IVFs, if you ever have questions, come visit... But hopefully you won't need it.

  8. Ack! So stressful. I'm sorry. I had 22 eggs, 7 fertilized, we transferred 2 on day 3 and none made it to freeze. I'm pregnant with twins. Don't lose hope! (I was miserable and devastated, so I say that knowing how hard it us.) good luck, I'll be checking back. -lfca
